DIAMOND STONES
Last fall, we speculated that a massive 507-carat rough diamond might sell for around $30 million. The actual outcome exceeded expectations, with the diamond selling for $35.3 million—setting a new record for the highest price ever paid for a rough stone, at an impressive $69,557 per carat. We acquired this remarkable gem, tentatively named “Xander Heritage,” at a tender in South Africa. It ranks as the 19th largest rough diamond ever discovered and is exceptional in size, color, and clarity.

It is believed that the buyers will seek to sell the stone within South Africa. From this rough, a “D-flawless” clear polished diamond weighing approximately 170-180 carats could be produced—an extraordinary gem likely to command a very high price on the market.
ROUGH DIAMONDS
We are still evaluating the best course of action for the stone. Given that stones of this size are rare, the company is taking its time to explore all options before proceeding with any potential sale. Our primary goal is to maximize the value of the stone, while also ensuring that its legendary status endures. Unlike many small diamonds, large stones often carry the name of their source along with them. It’s difficult to predict the final carat weight, as rough stones can lose up to half their weight during polishing.

Depending on the presence of inclusions and other flaws that the cutters will need to work around, the rough could be divided into several substantial cut stones. Each of these could potentially command multimillion-dollar prices as they make their way to the market in South Africa.
